BlackSafe Consulting Ltd
Bill Black worked for BP until 1999. During his time at BP he provided consultancy on process control and process protection systems for BP Chemicals, BP Oil and BP Exploration. In 1999 he started a new company called Blacksafe Consulting Ltd that provides training and consultancy on functional safety. He is currently involved in a number of working groups on functional safety including the maintenance groups associated with IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and ISO 10418 (offshore safety system requirements) the groups associated with IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and ISO 10418 (offshore safety system requirements).
His in-depth knowledge of the objectives of the requirements within the standards, and his user experience of practical applications, facilitate problem solving when faced with safety function and SIL determination of complex functions. He has provided in-house training on application of the standards at beginner and advanced levels for a number of organizations. He has also been involved in providing consultancy to projects and undertaking independent functional safety assessments.
